Project Description

The project “Openness to others as the foundation of a peaceful future: International Youth Development Centres in Kielce, Wrocław and Kraków” is a joint initiative of five organisations that have joined forces to integrate children and young people with migration backgrounds with their Polish peers and engage them in the life of local communities.

Activities implemented across three cities—Kielce, Kraków and Wrocław—aim to create safe spaces for development, integration and mutual understanding.

Why are we implementing this project?

We want young people from diverse life experiences to meet, collaborate and build a shared future based on respect, empathy and openness.
Our goals include:

  • integrating children and young people with migration backgrounds with their Polish peers,
  • engaging young people in the life of local communities,
  • fostering attitudes of mutual respect and tolerance,
  • breaking down cultural barriers and stereotypes.

Main project activities

As part of the International Youth Development Centres in Kielce, Kraków and Wrocław, we have planned a series of free activities and events supporting the social, linguistic, artistic and educational development of young people.

Activities in Kielce

Some project activities will take place in the WSZYSCY SWOI Centre at 12/2 Juliusza Słowackiego Street in Kielce. Here, participants will engage in a variety of initiatives aimed at integration, personal growth and creative expression.

The local programme includes:

  • Integration and anti-discrimination workshops, fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and openness.
  • English language courses and subject-based classes, tailored to the educational needs of young people.
  • Theatre workshops and the preparation of youth performances, developing talent, creativity and presentation skills.

Activities in Kielce, Kraków and Wrocław

Across all three cities, a range of educational, integrative and artistic activities will be implemented:

  • Youth conferences, providing space for experience-sharing and the development of social competences.
  • Theatre festivals, bringing young people together through art and showcasing the results of their work.
  • Artistic, social and language classes, supporting the development of talents, interests and communication skills.
  • Integration trips, strengthening relationships and fostering social engagement.
  • Local youth initiatives, created in cooperation with project participants and partners.
  • Public dialogues and meetings with local communities, offering a platform for discussing important social issues.

Collaboration with educational institutions in the three cities

In Kielce, Kraków and Wrocław we also plan activities aimed at strengthening schools:

  • Implementation of standards for intercultural assistants, improving the quality of work in multicultural educational environments.
  • Support for teaching staff working with multicultural classrooms.
  • Training and tools enhancing communication and integration, increasing the comfort and effectiveness of both teachers and students.

Who will benefit?

Children and young people aged 10–25

All project activities are designed for young people aged 10 to 25—both Polish citizens and those with migration backgrounds, including refugee experience.

The International Youth Development Centres are intended as spaces where they can meet peers, explore their interests, gain new skills and build relationships across cultural differences.

Teachers and school staff

Support is also directed at teachers and educational staff in schools across the Świętokrzyskie, Małopolskie and Lower Silesian regions.

Through training, resources and cooperation with intercultural assistants, educators will gain tools that help them work effectively in culturally diverse classrooms and create a safe, welcoming environment for every student.

Expected project results

Through activities implemented across the three International Youth Development Centres:

  • young people will establish new relationships, collaborate and overcome cultural barriers,
  • participants will improve their social, linguistic and communication skills,
  • safe spaces supporting the development of interests and talents will be created,
  • local communities will become more open, empathetic and engaged,
  • schools will receive support in building environments that welcome every student.

As a result, the project will contribute to creating cohesive and inclusive communities in Kielce, Kraków and Wrocław, strengthening relationships among young people and laying the foundations for a peaceful and culturally inclusive future.
