The “Fostering Inclusion of LGBTQI+ Migrants at Local Level” project is our response to the need to support one of the most vulnerable social groups. We strive to create a world where everyone – regardless of their identity – feels accepted and has equal opportunities for success. We believe that through our actions, we can bring about real, positive changes that will benefit not only LGBTQI+ migrants but also society as a whole.

Project Goal:

The aim of the project is to support the integration of LGBTQI+ migrants at the local level by building cooperation and coordination between local authorities, migrant organizations and communities, LGBTQI+ organizations, and other civil society organizations. Through joint actions, planning, and implementation of local integration strategies, we aim to create a strong support network that works for LGBTQI+ migrants. We strive to create lasting partnerships that will continue even after the project ends, leading to long-term positive changes.

The project will be implemented over 3 years in 6 European countries, including Germany, Italy, Cyprus, Spain, Greece, and Poland.

Main Objectives of the Project:

  • Increase awareness and knowledge of local authorities about the challenges faced by LGBTQI+ migrants, as well as best and worst integration practices.
  • Enhance understanding and sensitivity of migrant communities and organizations towards the integration of LGBTQI+ migrants.
  • Improve understanding and sensitivity of LGBTQI+ organizations towards the inclusion of LGBTQI+ migrants.
  • Strengthen synergy and cooperation between LGBTQI+ organizations, migrant organizations, and local authorities.
  • Develop and implement local integration strategies for LGBTQI+ migrants.
  • Improve access to information for LGBTQI+ migrants and refugees about practices and services in host countries.

Project Activities:

  • Needs Identification

We plan to conduct research and analysis to identify the needs regarding changes in attitudes and processes towards LGBTQI+ migrants and refugees.

  • Capacity Building and Sensitization Program

Organize training and workshops for 300 staff/volunteers/members of migrant organizations, 300 staff/volunteers/members of LGBTQI+ organizations, and 300 local government employees. Through training, workshops, and direct conversations with officials, we aim to create a space where everyone – regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity – feels understood and supported. This is a step towards a society that not only tolerates but actively promotes diversity as a value.

  • “Rainbow Friends” Programs for a Minimum of 300 Newly Arrived Migrants and Refugees

Implementing “rainbow friends” programs is another step towards building a supportive network. These programs aim to provide not only emotional but also practical support, helping newly arrived LGBTQI+ migrants establish contacts and find their footing in a new country. This will enable migrants to integrate more quickly and effectively into local communities, which is crucial for their well-being and self-realization.

  • Collaboration and Local Action Planning

Organize meetings and workshops involving local authorities, LGBTQI+ organizations, migrant organizations, and other civil society organizations to plan and implement local integration strategies. Through collaboration with migrant organizations and LGBTQI+ communities, we aim to enhance their mutual understanding and sensitivity. Integration is not a one-way process; it requires the involvement of all parties. We want migrant organizations to be fully prepared to support LGBTQI+ individuals and LGBTQI+ organizations to be aware of the specific challenges faced by migrants. Only then can we build truly inclusive communities.

  • Creation of a Multilingual Information Portal

LGBTQI+ migrants often face a lack of access to key information and support in new countries. By creating an information platform, we provide easy access to services that can significantly improve their quality of life. Information on residence legalization, access to healthcare, psychological support, and career counseling will be available in one place, making it easier for migrants to navigate their new environment.

  • Awareness-Raising and Dissemination Activities

Develop a project website providing information about project activities, project news, access to results, as well as links to the e-learning platform, portal, and social media and websites of partners.

Project Outcomes:

The implementation of the “Fostering Inclusion of LGBTQI+ Migrants at Local Level” project brings deep and multifaceted benefits that go beyond simple statistics. This project represents our commitment to building a more inclusive, just, and empathetic society that understands, accepts, and supports diversity.

The implementation of the project will bring significant benefits to both LGBTQI+ migrants and local communities. Increased awareness and understanding of migrant needs lead to greater acceptance and support, which in turn contributes to the creation of a more integrated and solidarity-based society. The support provided will allow LGBTQI+ migrants to gain better opportunities in the labor market, become self-reliant, and find their place in a new environment.
