Join the Rainbow Buddies volunteer mentoring program for LGBTQI+ people with migration experience

LGBTQI+ people with migration experience belong to groups particularly vulnerable to intersectional discrimination, social exclusion, and barriers in accessing public services, the labour market, and social life. They often face overlapping prejudice based on their origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, language, or migration status.

The Rainbow Buddies program, implemented by Foundation Ukraine as part of the @nclusion | Fostering Inclusion of LGBTQI+ Migrants at Local Level project, was created in response to these challenges.

In cooperation with partner organisations from six European countries – Poland, Germany, Spain, Greece, Italy, and Cyprus – we create a safe space for support, development, and integration by connecting LGBTQI+ people with migration experience with members of the host society.

Programme objectives

The Rainbow Buddies program aims to:

  • strengthen the independence and agency of people with migration experience;
  • build relationships based on solidarity and trust;
  • counteract social exclusion;
  • create more open and integrated local communities.

What is the program about?

Rainbow Buddies is a six-month mentoring program based on one-to-one pairs or small mentoring groups.

As part of the program:

  • each pair/group meets at least once a month (in person or in a hybrid format);
  • activities are co-created by mentors, mentees, and a supervisor from Fundacja Ukraina;
  • participants receive substantive, organisational and – if needed – psychological support;
  • the program is flexible and tailored to the real needs of mentees.

Forms of support may include:

  • assistance in navigating administrative and public systems;
  • support in accessing healthcare and social services;
  • learning and practising Polish in everyday situations;
  • discovering Wrocław and its cultural and social offer;
  • building local networks and relationships;
  • developing life and professional skills.

Who is it for?

Foundation Ukraine provides mentors with:

  • training to prepare for the mentoring role;

  • educational materials and practical tools.
