“Multilanguage Summer Camps” is a new project under the Erasmus+ program, aimed at addressing the challenges of integrating migrant children in their new countries. The project will be carried out in Poland, Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Greece, targeting children aged 6-12 who have recently settled with their families in these countries and need support in language learning, adapting to their new environment, and building relationships with peers. The project’s core element is to create a space where children can play together, develop communication and social skills through sports, play, and intercultural education.
Project goal:
The main goal of the project is to promote social integration and inclusivity among children from diverse cultural backgrounds who face challenges related to migration and adaptation in a new country. We aim to give them the opportunity to learn the language, develop social skills, and become familiar with local traditions, helping them to better adapt to their new surroundings. The project leverages the power of sports as an effective tool for integration and intercultural dialogue. Sports activities support children’s development by helping them break down language and cultural barriers, build self-confidence, and foster a sense of belonging.
Why sports?
Research confirms that sports are an excellent tool for supporting the integration of migrants, both adults and children. By participating in sports activities, children from different cultures learn cooperation, communication, and respect. Sports create natural opportunities to break down language barriers, foster a sense of belonging, and explore other cultures in a friendly and supportive environment.
Key activities in the project include:
- International camp organization
Preparation and implementation of camps in each of the partner countries, which will include intensive language courses enabling children to quickly grasp essential phrases in new languages, as well as cultural and integration workshops. - Educational and sports activities
The project includes organizing creative workshops, sports activities, team games, and arts and crafts, which promote the development of cooperation skills, overcoming language barriers, and integration in international teams. Sports, as a key element of the project, serve as a tool for building mutual respect and trust. - International exchange of experiences
Organizing integration meetings that allow children to make friends and exchange experiences with peers from different countries. Activities conducted in international groups support learning and cooperation with children from different cultures. - Cultural integration support
In addition to language courses, thematic workshops will help children learn about the culture of the country they are in, as well as how to deal with the social, cultural, and emotional challenges related to migration. - Training and preparation of international trainers
Preparing and training international trainers who will lead the camps in different countries. The training program includes learning effective teaching and integration methods, as well as techniques that support the development of migrant children. - Progress monitoring and effect evaluation
Regular monitoring sessions will track children’s progress in language and social skills, adapting the program to their needs. Consultations will also be held with local organizations supporting migrant children to ensure the best possible support.
Expected project outcomes:
- Improved language skills for children – children will have the opportunity for intensive language practice, which will help them adapt more easily to their new environment.
- Increased social integration – through joint educational and sports activities, children will have the chance to build relationships with peers from different countries and cultures, promoting mutual understanding and acceptance.
- Improved emotional stability and a sense of security – the project will assist children in managing emotions related to migration and adaptation, providing them with a space for self-expression and a sense of belonging.
- Promotion of values of inclusivity and diversity – the camp environment promotes learning cooperation, respect, and intercultural acceptance in an international context.
The project will have a positive impact not only on the camp participants but also on local communities in each of the project countries. It will support the migrant integration process and contribute to building open, diverse, and inclusive communities that promote mutual understanding, tolerance, and intercultural cooperation. The project’s results will have a long-term impact, strengthening social bonds and creating foundations for better migrant integration into new environments.
