Key Project Activities:
Sport Trainers Squared is an international partnership project preparing migrants for the role of sports trainers, aiming to develop and disseminate an online training program allowing for the acquisition and enhancement of professional competencies. The cooperation of the international Consortium within the STS project aims to increase the participation of migrants in sports and to acquire and/or enhance the competencies of sports trainers and instructors in the field of the Education Through Sport (ETS) methodology.
The project entails creating an online training course to increase the availability of informal sports coaching education for two target groups:
- Migrants wishing to acquire and/or enhance professional competencies as sports trainers/instructors.
- Sports trainers/instructors seeking to enhance their professional competencies in coaching migrants.
The Sport Trainers Squared project focuses on the following objectives:
- Identifying 24 methods and practices that can be used to prepare migrants to become sports trainers and transforming the identified methods into a training format.
- Identifying the existing knowledge of sports trainers (belonging to “team sports”) to train migrants and developing an online course based on their needs.
- Strengthening the position of migrants in disadvantaged situations and preparing them to become sports instructors through the Education Through Sport (ETS) methodology.
The above objectives will be achieved through:
- Cross-country research to identify the needs of target groups: migrants and sports trainers.
- An educational program for sports trainers and educators of “team sports” interested in working with migrants in each partner country.
- An online course that will provide the opportunity to complete the training and receive a certificate for other sports trainers.
- Strengthening activities implemented by trained sports trainers with local migrants.
Project Effects:
During the 30-month implementation period, the STS project will have a direct and indirect positive impact on at least:
- 30 sports trainers working with migrants while testing the educational program,
- 120 migrants interested in becoming sports instructors testing the training format,
- 300 participants in national dissemination events.
